Sunday Worship
Informal 8:30 am
Adult Bible Study 9:30 am
Traditional Church 10:30 am
Children's Service 10:30 am |
We are a congregation in covenant relationship
with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). All governance decisions
are made within the congregation; we determine our budget for missions
and ministries, and call our own pastor.
Distinctive Disciples traditions include weekly observance of the Lord's
Supper (also called Communion or The Eucharist) and believer's baptism
by immersion. We recognize the baptism of other Christian traditions,
and welcome everyone regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation,
or prior religious background.
We believe each Christian must work toward an understanding of and relationship with
God through scripture, experience, community, and the leading of the
Holy Spirit. We invite you to join us for worship each Sunday for an
informal service at 8:30 a.m. or traditional service at 10:30 a.m. |

OUR VISION:
We are a community of people overcoming brokenness, finding wholeness
and forgiveness for ourselves and for the world through God's healing love.
OUR MISSION:
Following Christ's example, we are committed to inviting EVERYONE to experience
God's love, to grow in deeper relationship with God and God's people, and
to serve God in our community and throughout the world.
OUR VALUES:
- Celebrating and affirming God's love and Christ's
welcome for every person.
- Embracing the traditions, heritage, and covenant
relationship of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), especially
Christ's open invitation to the Communion Table.
- Respecting the traditions and heritage of other
Christians, and committing to working with them for the unity of the
Church.
- Affirming the freedom and responsibility of every
Christian to understand the scriptures through study, experience, and
the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
- Acknowledging that faithful Christians may disagree
regarding God's word and God's will, we commit to maintaining mutual
respect and continuing covenant.

Michael Stein
Michael is a very busy man and has not gotten
his information to me yet. So this designer is going to undertake to
tell you a little about our pastor. (It just might spur him to get
his data to me also. I mean I have to get the page up right?) Michael
is married to Carla. (Carla also happens to be our organist, which is
our good fortune. Find out more about Carla.) They
have two children, Emily and David; grown and on their own. Although
they are both off getting educated, they come back frequently. (Perhaps
not enough for Michael and Carla though.) Emily and David
are very helpful and full of the joy of life, both possessing open,
interested, intelligent, and friendly countenances.
I also know Michael has been guiding our church
for 10 years now. Besides what he does for First Christian and in the
Christian Church on a state, regional, and national level, Michael
is involved in Cooperative Ministries locally; a gathering of churches
in the valley who work together to do more in the service of God than
one church on its own would be able to do. He also is very much involved
with Habitat for Humanity, giving much time and effort to the cause.
Being open to the idea of cooperation as being an important element
in God's plans and Christian faith is part of Michael's makeup. He
talks about seeing the face and community of God in other's and how
important is that people see God's loving face and spirit in oneself,
and if ever a person possessed the spirit of God within them, it is
Michael.
As for his education, childhood, work experience and so forth, that
will have to wait until Michael gets his info to me. |

Carla and baby Rhys |
Carla Stein
Organist
Organist and oh so much more. As before, I
have not yet the education, childhood, or employment information from Michael.
I probably should just ask Carla, duh! Stayed tuned for more information.
But what I can tell you about Carla is that she loves
babies and dogs. (Although, she is allergic to dogs, that doesn't stop
her from seeking them out. I didn't say she was conventional.) Her comments
from
the bench (organist bench) has cracked up the congregation many times.
She brings smiles for sure. She is a positive upbeat person who shines
with God's love radiating from her. Plus she plays the organ beautifully,
so we are blessed in her on many accounts.

Delores is camera shy. |
Delores Ramig
Administrative Assistant
When you call the church, more than likely it will be Delores that you
will be talking to. I have yet to see her out of sorts and, believe me,
I have gone in there with some off the wall requests. Actually, I don't
think I would blame her if she was thinking "what now" when
I walk through the door; but
not Delores, she always greets me with a smile and a sincere desire to
help.

Lisa Rien |
Lisa Rien
Accompanist
Again, more information and picture forthcoming. I can tell you that
Lisa,
her husband, and children along with her mother are members of First
Christian Church and,
again, a very pleasant and helpful family.
(I think I am seeing a pattern here in this church.)
Lisa will play the most wonderful music during communion as we all come
up. The selection of music and the talent that we have involved in the
music is a blessing to the church.
If you are called
to produce a "joyful noise unto the Lord", please consider
coming to our church. We are not lacking will or talent, we are only
lacking people who can make it to the Wednesday night practices at 6:30 and
you can remedy that problem and I bet you end up having a good time and
making some good friends.

Joyce Ferguson
|
Joyce Ferguson
Music Director
This one I don't have to wait for more information. Joyce is well known
to everybody in the church and I am happy to count her amongst my friends.
Besides all the different offices she has held and holds within Christian
Women Fellowship, she is involved with funeral dinners, Soup Kitchen,
and most every event that happens at the church.
Just look around you will find Joyce. She has a knack for organization
and the church benefits from this mucho mucho much. (Is it our fault
the woman has the energy and passion of a dynamo?)
She does it all with
grace, compassion, and obviously with God very much present in her heart
and soul. |

Elders
An Elder is called upon to be a teacher, shepherd, celebrator
of the Lord's Supper, and church leader.
Elders do many behind the scenes activities that are vital to the church
including taking communion to the homebound. Elders also read the prayers
before the breaking of the bread during Holy Communion. Most
important to the people of the church though is that Elders will talk
with you, have prayer with you, and assist you in finding
your way. Our Elders consist of both women and men. The Elders are part
of the laity at First Christian. Though we have been blessed with several
who have gone on for training through school, seminars, online courses,
etc.
For more information
on how elders are chosen or getting in touch with an Elder, contact Michael
Stein or the church.

Deacons
Deacons prepare and serve Holy Communion. We also participate in
taking communion to the homebound and also serve as the Welcoming Committee
to our church.
Our Deacons consist of both women and men, young and old. The Deacons
are part of the laity at First Christian.
For more information on deacons and their role in the church, contact
Michael Stein or call the church.

'If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power,
but for the passionate sense of the potential, for the eye which, ever
young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility
never. And what wine is so foaming, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating,
as possibility!"
