Article Pic A genuine carillon is a musical instrument of many bells, played on a keyboard-like console. The instrument and housing often costs millions of dollars to build and maintain.

The late Lawrence and Pauline Lemmons became enamored of the carillons they heard while touring Europe, and gifted First Christian Church with an electronic version when our current church building was constructed in 1955.

As technology improved, the family revamped the carillon and endowed a fund for its maintenance. The latest version is a Chimemaster® computerized controller, which plays digital recordings of genuine carillons from all over the world. The instrument selects from a library of over 600 tunes, according to the time of the Christian year.
