First Christian Church Ministries

Prayer Shawl Ministries

helping
Don't know how to crochet or knit?
No problem, instructions and help freely given.

Meets every third Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church. All denominations and faith are welcome.

After a shawl or lap robe are finished, they are prayed over and then given to a person who is suffering either from illness, grief, or other troubles, with prayers said over the item for health, hope, and for God to answer that person's prayers. We also make baby blankets.
All are made and given with God's love.

All are welcome, even if your hands can't work a needle yet.

Child Saving Institute

Child Saving Institute

CSI and the Christian Church
A 98 year-strong relationship continues between the Christian Church and CSI. For example, in 1933, the Federated Church in Mitchell, Nebraska, initiated an annual train carload of food from church members in Nebraska's North Platte Valley. Financial and moral support for the CSI mission continues today from members and congregations of the Christian Church from communities through Nebraska and Iowa. The children and families served by Child Saving Institute historically and still today are "incredibly blessed to have this enduring relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)".

CWF also makes jean bags and stocks them with toiletries, clothing, books, toys, stuffed animals, etc. for the children who are displaced from their homes because of violence in the home. We also make warm blankets and pillows to give.
This is an annual project for CWF, but we also rely on support from all church members to help us.

‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Habitat for Humanity

Doing good work!

First Christian has participated with Habitat for Humanity several years, including in 2011, to build houses in our community. We have been involved with many houses going up, possibly in your neighborhood for your neighbors, maybe for you. Church members gather to dig foundations, build walls, paint, provide food, etc. The new owners of the house must provide sweat equity and also will be paying off a loan just like other homeowner.

To help First Christian in this project contact Michael.
